Bio
Frank Chiodo is a contemporary painter whose dynamic work centers on organic abstraction. Through the interplay of color and gesture on the canvas, he creates a compelling dialogue that draws upon the viewer's memories and emotions, urging them to explore their own creativity and interpretation. Dedicated to continuous growth and experimentation, Frank's artistic journey is marked by a constant search for new ways to express the complexities of the human experience through color, form, and texture. His medium of choice is acrylic paint due to its quick-drying nature, which allows him to work in a fast-paced and multilayered process. Frank's approach often involves numerous iterations and experimentation, where each layer builds on the last, eventually leading to a polished final piece.
Originally from Long Island, Frank grew up surrounded by art. His mother and grandfather, both artists, inspired him from a young age as he watched them paint and draw. This early exposure to art deeply influenced his creative path. Frank pursued a BA in Psychology from Wake Forest University, and it wasn't until his senior year that he decided to add a minor in Studio Art. This decision marked a pivotal point in his artistic journey, blending his understanding of the human mind with his creative pursuits. After college, he began attending classes at The Art Students League of New York, where he continues to refine his craft.
At the Art Students League, Frank has studied with notable instructors such as Kikuo Saito, Frank O’Cain, Peter Reginato (where he served as a Studio Monitor), and Peter Bonner. Their mentorship has significantly shaped his techniques and artistic vision.
Frank's work has been showcased in exhibitions across the United States, including Connecticut, New York, Portland, Los Angeles, and Texas. His participation in these shows has allowed him to reach a diverse audience, garnering recognition for his unique approach to contemporary painting.
